About the Institute
Institute of Biomedicine is one the main institutes of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki. Institute of Biomedicine takes care of the first two years of basic education of medical and dental students, giving altogether teaching for more than 65 study weeks. Every year 160 new students of which 40 students of dentistry begin their studies at the Institute. The basic education is given according to the Helsinki 2000 –education program and based on Problem Based Learning -principle.
The following teaching disciplines are represented currently at the Institute of Biomedicine:
Anatomy
- Pharmacology
- Physiology
- Medical Biochemistry and Developmental Biology
In addition to the basic education the Institute participates in the scientific continued education and carries out basic research in medical sciences. There are several internationally distinguished research groups focussing on various subfields of biomedicine.
