Welcome!

Neuron expressing mutant huntingtin aggregates (in green). Cell nucleus is in blue. We are interested in neuronal signaling and basic mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases. Alterations in cell death pathways and synaptic functions occur early in many brain disorders and we study the role of various proteins and the ubiquitin-proteasom system in neuronal metabolism and in disease pathogenesis. We also study neurotrophic factors such as BDNF, and neuronal progenitor cells that may combat cell death and degeneration and contribute to development of better therapies for brain diseases in the future.
